My practice is one of allowing concept to dictate medium. I’ve worked in a wide range of mediums and embrace being a multidisciplinary artist— I enjoy making work that explores the range of my practice and pushes my own personal boundaries. In addition to honing different forms of making, I try to challenge myself conceptually by facing complicated topics and learning more about myself through art. I start, always, with language. Most of my sketchbook is dominated by journal-like entries and vague sketches which combine to form final images and works. When I think out loud on the page, I have found that I can dig into the heart of an idea and begin to form a work from there on out. Language has also become a medium in and of itself for me, and more and more words have shone through in the final images of my work. The more vulnerable I allow myself to be in my research and execution, the more satisfied I am with the end result. While much of my work tends to reflect my personal journey, I strive to turn that mirror back on the viewer and encourage them to consider themself through considering me. I utilize my interest in the human experience to explore my own and encourage others to do the same.
