FAITH GIBSON

Faith Gibson is an artist earning a B.F.A in Studio Art as a drawing emphasis. Possessing a deep sense of creativity, she continuously pushes herself to evolve her skills. Held in his Absence is a mosaic of Faith’s dad who recently passed away in October. Using a striking 7ft by 4ft canvas not just serves as a surface, but as an experience, the overwhelming nature of memory and loss. She pieces together a collage of smaller images- fragments of memories that capture moments of her father. These individual images come together to form a portrait of him in his final moment. Interwoven with these images, is a collection of letters written to him, expressing a range of emotions experienced in the weight of his absence. Not only is this piece a tribute, but a meditation on grief, reminding viewers of the complex, evolving nature of remembrance. By transforming personal loss into visual storytelling, Faith invites others to reflect on their own memories and the ways in which we hold on to those we love.
