MAURA BENSON

Maura Benson is a multidisciplinary artist working in various mediums, from photography and video to sculpture and performance art. While her work ranges in media, she enjoys creating works that show the process and transformation of the tool or material itself. Using unconventional materials from food and oil to parts of her own body, Benson’s work aims to relate material transformation to human experience and change.

Using food as a medium, Hyperconsumption forces viewers to contemplate the relationship between societal consumptions of food and women. Despite both being necessary for life, they are treated as disposable; valuable until no longer deemed so, like a molded piece of cheese or a used up tea bag.
