BFA Graphic Design

In my work I touch on topics surrounding the concept of healing, recovery and holistic growth in all facets of life- mental, emotional, spiritual, physical and situational. I try to summarize the phases one may experience during this process: support, growth, stability, wholeness and happiness and the bittersweet ways in which it can affect an individual’s life. My thesis will merely examine the ways in which growth may help and/or hinder someone’s life and the different facets it can affect, lacking the elements of persuasion, bias or agenda. It will tie into the art making process and speak to personal experience as well. I will do so by examining the ways in which holistic growth can affect an individual’s time in the studio. It is subjective to one's value system as to whether or not the topic of growth is one of urgency. This topic fits into the context of contemporary art, as themes around healing, growth and mental health awareness are prevalent in today’s society with virtually an uprising of works created within these topics in all different art making mediums. I am a graphic designer primarily, so in order to create most of my work, I use Adobe software (specifically AdobeInDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop), however, I also enjoy painting detailed portraits of friends and family using pointillism and ½ inch tile techniques. Through my work, I want to give back to the community and raise awareness for problems faced within marginalized communities. These passions tie into the overall themes featured throughout my work:healing, recovery and holistic growth.
