Kellen Quigley
BFA Graphic Design
Design and structure have always fascinated me. I would often build homes with whatever construction toys available to me. Homes turned to villages, and villages turned to towns. Towns turned into entirely created worlds.I hope to take my knowledge of design and the arts and translate it to architecture. Graphic designers and architects work very closely, so to have a strong background in both fields will significantly aid me as I continue to learn and gain more experience. Strong understanding of the arts and design concepts continue to shape my understanding of the balance between design and functionality.
My ideas come from my experiences and lessons learned. This can range anywhere from the media I consume, to involvement in sports, interactions with friends, interactions with opposition, and so on. Much of my process involves reflection and then translating that to design and art. After research stages I tend to gravitate toward pen drawings and sketches, before taking my work to a digital medium. I try to sketch or draw at least once a day, this can range from doodles to characters, to architectural drawings ,or very detailed and thought out work.
Conceptually I would consider myself a bit of an idealist.I tend to focus on the positive, seeing the beauty of the world and the people within it. It is because of this that much of my work is colorful and illustrative. I also believe that balance is of utmost importance throughout all aspects of life. This is reflected in my attempts to walk the fine line between aesthetically pleasing design and functionality. All in all I seek to help others, or at the very least bring positivity into the lives of others through my artistic practice.
