BFA Sculpture

I strive to stretch my ideas as far as possible. Being a surrealist, sculptor and a writer allows me to tap into unconscious mind of creativity. Surrealism is the foundation of invention. Invention comes tapping into the creative psyche that doesn’t label or question logic while making. Being able to make with a sense of play and freedom, which stems from the words “it just felt right”. It is the ability to recognize the way things connect to each other and being able to take them apart and reshape them in an unimaginable way. I find eliminating the figure allows the freedom to connect with the concept of the piece. The absence of the figure offers them an environment to step into for the artwork to convey its own intention. Prompting the viewer to ask more questions and connect to the narrative alluded to or presented in that space. My practice beckons me to translate the ongoing experiences I encounter in life into figurative tools that construct a story that changes with time. My work is a reflection of right here at the moment, the state of being present. Invention comes from the most vulnerable part of my mind while finding a fluid balance between the personal and the public when creating composition and context.
