Rachel Regan
BFA Painting
As an artist who is strongly compelled to make personal pieces, my art often embraces similar qualities to one’s diary, yet it remains not-so-secretive and essentially acts as my coping mechanism. With careful and thorough investigation into the inner workings of my mind, my art reflected on canvas best expresses my emotional state. As someone who leans more towards introversion, art has become my vessel of communication. Viewers are given free-range access to indulge in my personal, and often-times intense emotions that linger in my brain. Focusing mostly using portraiture and mixed-media, I have a tendency to create intriguing compositions strictly influenced by my own life experiences as well as my chaotic dreams that have had a lasting effect on my mental health. Although I work heavily with bright and vibrant colors that seemingly have been given a reputation of being more so on the ‘happier’ scale, one should not be blind-sided by the dark and overwhelming undertones present amongst my pieces. Expressing raw human emotion has become an important aspect of my practice.
