My work currently focuses on the idea of identity and what that really means. In my research, I realized that there wasn’t a real way to talk about identity without discussing how gender roles effect how we choose to project ourselves to the world. Gender roles place us in two categories: Feminine and Masculine. Black and White, but the reality is that gender is a choice. Femininity and masculinity are on a spectrum of personality traits in which everyone can be found on. So, how an individual chooses to present themselves can vary based on personal choice. There are so many sides to a person so it’s understandable that nailing down who we are is impossible!

My artwork is a way for me to redefine how we look at ourselves. The work that I’ve created is all about the different ways I look at myself versus how others may perceive me. I hope that my own identity crisis can inspire others embrace who they are. The goal is to get comfortable with the image you have of yourself despite the imperfections that are inevitable in life. We are all a work in progress but as we change and experience life it’s important to take the time to appreciate how far we’ve come.
